Brigham Young (BYU) is a university with a large international student body located in the mountains of Utah. It was established in 1875. Since then, the university continues to share a special relationship with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The goal of Brigham Young University is to educate students who wish to continue studying and those who want to help people and while developing their faith, intellect and character. His education is a blend of spiritual learning with Practical skills you need to live.

BYU is known for its extensive programs of languages, sports programs (more than 21 competitive sports), the high quality of his teaching and his devotion to religion.The University was recently featured in The Princeton Review , because it has received first place in 10 categories in its survey that is conducted every year. Included in the results, we found that BYU has the highest number of students who do not want to drink alcohol, the best library (better than Harvard, Yale, Stanford and Cornell) and the best quality of life for all students in the U.S.. Admission:

The university has a strict regard for their students. If an international student wants to be part of the university, must meet standards of dress and respect the special atmosphere that exists at BYU.Spanish Candidates must obtain the Baccalaureate with a score of at least 6 (Good) ( Requirements for candidates of other nationalities). In addition, you need to pass the Test of Language as a Foreign Espanol (TOEFL), with a minimum score of 500 (in each section must have a score of 50).

Accommodation:

BYU has a great selection of accommodation for students, including for families and spouses. The campus has three residences:

Deseret Towers Rooms:

For men and women, this residence offers students a lot of fun. You have the option of having a private room or share with one another. Located in Deseret Towers, The Morris Centre, has various facilities for students including a cafeteria, computers, Internet access, swimming pool, sports area, rooms for play instruments and games of pool. Each building has a small kitchen, storage area and laundry.

Helaman Halls Rooms:

It offers the opportunity to have a private or shared room (with a bathroom or a sink only). The facilities are the same as in Deseret Towers Room, but everything is contained in Helaman Halls at The Cannon Center.

Halls Heritage Rooms:

In the style of apartments, Heritage Hall offers accommodation for 2, 4 or 6 people in each apartment. Residents have the option to cook or drink in the cafeteria and each apartment has its own kitchen and bathroom. The Heritage Halls Central Building offers the same activities mentioned in Deseret Tower Rooms and there are also areas for patios and barbecue (BBQ).

Foreign language Housing:

It consists of 9 apartments which offers students the opportunity to live and speak in a language other than English. Each apartment has a native language of the country and offers the opportunity to learn the language and take advantage of the experiences of others. It offers Russian, Spanish, Hebrew/Arabic, French, Chinese, Portuguese, German, Italian or Japanese.

Financing:

The following costs for 2004/2005 are an approximation of how much it costs for a student to go to BYU. The costs are based on a semester for an American student. So remember that international students have higher costs and will have other expenses.In addition, part of the cost of tuition is funded by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. So if you’re not a member of the church, the costs will be more.
