Schools, faculties and departments
In addition to the 31 colleges, the university consists of more than 150 departments, schools, unions and other institutions. A school is defined as a large group that has administrative responsibility for relations between the faculty, overseen by a board and there are 6 such schools:
-Artistic Sciences (Arts and Humanties)
-Sciences (Biological Sciences)
-Clinical Medicine (Clinical Medicine)
-Human and Social Sciences (Humanities and Social Sciences)
-Physical Science (Physical Sciences)
-Technology (Technology)
Academic Year
The academic year is divided into three terms (or term), the statutes of the University. The Michaelmas Term (named after St. Michael , and Christmas ) takes place between October and December, the Lent Term (from Lent , lent in English) falls between January and March, and finally the ‘Easter Term (from Easter , Easter in English ) takes place from April to June.
Within these there are the so-called term Full Term (quarter full), which last for eight weeks. It is within these periods is that all the teaching, and students are forced to live in their college for their entire duration.
The quarters are considerably shorter than all other British universities, it is expected that students work hard in three annual holidays, the Christmas, Easter and the four summer months. The academic year starts from October, and between the last weeks of May and early June are organized most of the exams.
