Recruitment by competitive examination for French and foreign students:
ENS students are recruited by a competition after two or three years of higher education, generally followed by preparatory classes for schools. Any student of L2 French or foreigner can compete. European winners acquire the status of probationer and are paid for four years (about 1250 euros net). The winners receive a non-European stock exchange.
Recruitment folder for French and foreign students:
The school also welcomes students of all nationalities to prepare the record on the ENS Diploma in L3 or a Master. From the preparatory classes for schools, French or foreign universities, these students are selected after the L2 or L3, after review of their application and interview. They do not enjoy the status of probationer and do not receive no treatment or scholarship. They receive the same training as ENS students, benefit from international partnerships of the ENS. They can, if stock, be candidates for the allocation of housing.
Recruitment of foreign students:
The International Selection is a high-level competitions for students enrolled at a foreign university: twenty students divided equally between Science and Letters are recruited each year to the end of their undergraduate degree. School at the ENS lasts 3 years. They do not have the status of probationer, but will receive a scholarship of about 1000 euros per month.
The civil servant-trainee:
Candidates who pass the first or second contest become students of the ENS and, if they are citizens of a Member State of the European Union, acquire the status of civil servant-trainee. In return for a ten-year obligation (Article 36 of Decree No. 87-695 of August 26, 1987:”Students are required to exercise a professional activity in the State services, local authorities, their public or national companies for ten years from their entry to the School “), they have four years of study paid (about 1250 euros net per month). Winners non-citizens of a Member State of the European Union also become students, but they do not acquire civil service status and trainee are not paid. However, they usually enjoy cooperation exchange.
