University College Dublin is the largest university, with more than 1,300 teachers and 17,000 students. It is located in Dublin, the capital of Ireland.Descended from the body founded in 1854 as the Catholic University of Ireland with John Henry Newman, as the first president, re-formed in 1880 and rented his own in 1908, today the university campus is a component of the National University of Ireland. The Universities Act, 1997 renamed the university as “National University of Ireland, Dublin, and a ministerial decree of 1998 renamed the university as University College Dublin – National University of Ireland, Dublin.
Originally located in the center of Dublin, most of the faculties of the universities have been transferred to a 148 acre campus in Belfield Park, four miles south of downtown Dublin.The University has five schools, their associated schools (35 in total) and eighteen research institutes and centers. Each school has its own Graduate School for graduate students. Among the most important is triple accredited School of Smurfit Business School and note electrical, electronic and Mechanical Engineering. The colleges and schools are as follows:
